Creating a password for your oxy.edu Gmail account

Isabella, an incoming first year at Occidental College, is creating a password for her new Gmail account.

Please create a password.

That’s a little weak. Your password needs a capital letter.

Cool, kudos on the capital letter. But now that I’m thinking about it, there were so many Isabellas born in 1998. I think your password needs some symbols.

Nice, nice … I do get giddy whenever a dollar sign is substituted for an S. I’m not saying this is a weak password — definitely an improvement — but we could certainly buff it up a little. Try adding some phrases to your password.

Don’t get cheeky now.

I know this password is for your .edu email address, you liberal arts fool. I, a Gmail password bot, am just as unforgiving as the common app. Let’s see some creativity.

Maybe if you a put a little more effort into things you would be creating a password for pomona.edu.

I$bell@1998_doesn’t know what CTSJ is, nor has she ever done anything that could be considered “studio art.” I don’t know who I am. Did I pick the right school? I just Facebook stalked my future roommate and she seems really weird based on her “Phantom of the Opera” cover photo. Is college truly for me? I can’t even think of a password — a short phrase that nobody will ever see. What am I doing here? I don’t even want a password because that means I will have an email, which means I’ll have to talk to people and professors. If I can’t compose a password, how am I ever going to compose a cover letter?

I totally get that. Before Gmail, I was with Yahoo, which blows. I really appreciate this password. It has depth. It seems that Oxy admitted you for a reason after all. We’d all be very impressed, here at Password Protection Services, if you could memorize this.

I can memorize this. I’m going to commit to this. I’m going to show everyone that I can go above and beyond.

So, so great. Keep up that attitude for the duration of your undergrad.

Thank you so much. I’m ready to thrive at this institution throughout the next four years. I can feel it.

Oh, not a big deal, just forgot to mention this, but there is a 10-character limit.
