In response to Lindsay Palmer’s article on KOXY: I, too, am a KOXY DJ, and I am also appalled by Oxy students’ apparent inability to just tune in and listen to some great tunes.

However, unlike Ms. Palmer, I don’t think they do it out of laziness or apathy. I have tried many a time to tune into shows from my room, and found it impossible. The connection just won’t work. KOXY staffers have told me that I just need an ethernet connection. I have one, and it still doesn’t work. I can stream just about anything else from the web, but cannot stream KOXY.

Is this attributable to ITS internet just being too slow to handle it? Or is there something wrong with how KOXY streams? The irony is, I’ve had friends and family tune in from as far away as Edinburgh, Scotland and Mexico City. Why can’t we, on campus, listen to our own campus radio station?

Also, something that might make it more accessible: Why doesn’t the Green Bean stream KOXY? Or the Cooler, for that matter? All the speakers in there currently do is shout out order numbers. KOXY streaming needs a revamp, now.
