I would like to respond to last week’s article written by Michael Darling, “OSL Hip-Hop Concert Conflicts with Film Comps.” First of all, the title is incorrect, seeing as though the OSL is not associated with this concert (neither financially, nor in planning the event), other than the fact that the ASOC Senate Advisor, Tamara Rice, is overseeing the project. This free concert is co-sponsored by ASOC Senate, Programming Board, ICC Remsen Bird, KOXY and the Dean of the College’s office.

As for the speculation about Mos Def coming to the school, leaks have gotten out, but nothing is set in stone. We guarantee an amazing night either way.

As for the conflict with Film Department, they were never asked to move their comps. We understand why they did so, but it must be said that they only did so based on a rumor that Mos Def would be coming to campus. In fact, there is a performance of “Hair” that night, which is not being re-scheduled. Although it is truly an unfortunate situation that this concert has caused difficulty to the film students and their families, what has been done has been done, and we look forward to great shows on both Friday and Saturday.
