“This is the shoreline of Lake Tahoe in King’s Beach, CA. My housemates and I like to come here to watch the sunset on the lake. It’s a great place to explore and clear my mind after a long school week. Watching the water definitely helps me keep all of the little things in my life in perspective.” King’s Beach, CA, Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021. Courtesy of Adin Raphael.
“I used to not be a nature person and enjoyed the comfort of my bed, but Zoom fatigue makes me really want to go outside and rest my eyes from the screens. Places like Lake Sonoma or the small parks around my house are all my favorites to sit in the sun and have a little picnic instead of staring at screens if I can avoid it.” Rohnert Park, CA, Monday, Feb. 15, 2021. “Windy Run/Potomac Overlook is really close to my house, so I can walk to the trail entrance. I’ve been going on this hike since I was a kid. I’d go with my mom, and we would walk our dog. As I’ve gotten older and my dog passed away, I love going on the walk alone. I’ll listen to a podcast and walk for an hour or two, and it’s a perfect escape from any stress and the realities of the pandemic. I always knew I liked walking, but over the pandemic and living at home, it’s become a routine, and I try to make time to walk in the woods a few times a week. I feel really lucky that I have nature near my house that I can enjoy and has been something consistent growing up.” Potomac River, VA, Thursday, July 16, 2020. Courtesy of Emma Jenks.
“I’m from Philly and moved to LA for the semester, and let’s just say this is not something I could be doing on the East coast. I mostly just do it so I can flex on all the kids back home at Ivy’s. Does Harvard have this ????” Santa Monica, CA,Monday, Feb. 22, 2021. Courtesy of Sarah Cook.
“My favorite spot to hang out during the pandemic is my backyard at my home in Honolulu, Hawaii. I enjoy shooting around and sitting on the grass with my dogs. Both of these activities are a welcome break from sitting inside and staring at a screen for hours on end. I’m lucky to be in quarantine in Hawaii where the weather is pretty nice year-round, so I can always step outside of my house and into the backyard whenever I feel like it.” Honolulu, HI, Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021. “I’ve driven past this veteran’s cemetery for my whole life without ever visiting until I recently ventured in on a whim. I’ve found that it has a powerful calming quality that I can’t quite put into words, but it gives me a chance to slow down and just observe. To me, this goes to show that you can find beauty in places you would never expect to look. Who knows — that very place might be right under your nose.” San Bruno, CA, Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021. “I picked up surfing during the beginning of quarantine. Now it’s one of my favorite hobbies. I love to go down to Huntington Pier for a quick study break either during the morning sunrise or evening sunset.” Huntington Beach, CA, Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021. Courtesy of Jillian Miller.
“I enjoy finding and visiting hiking locations along the coast because the wind currents coming from the ocean are refreshing and the view is incredible. In a time when going to places is limited by the pandemic, being able to visit these isolated yet beautiful locations is a joy.” East Bay, CA, Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2021. Courtesy of Jason Park.
