Snoop Dogg may be known for his rapping, but he and Warren G lit up the Greek Bowl on Saturday night during Occidental’s Spring Fest. Draped in a custom purple letterman jacket and dripping with jewels, the aging pioneer of G-funk had the crowd’s focus from word one, not only commanding them to jump and say, “Fuck that shit,” but also to pause for a moment of silence in honor of his cousin and former fellow member of trap trio 213, Nate Dogg. Snoop’s band, supplementing celebrity DJ Warren G, provided backing for the late evening performance. The band members brought virtuoso levels of musicianship to the stage and, along with the dancing Snoopettes, helped to round out a true concert experience on campus. Snoop’s reception at Occidental College as a superstar of the rap game is a far cry from his reception at Wayside County Jail, a testament to his professional and personal success. It may be quite some time before Occidental’s small, concrete amphitheater is again abuzz with such delight.
