Dear Editor,
It is with great dismay that I write a second letter to complain about the door warning in he Wylie side door. I noted that the side door facing Bell-Young has a sound box that shouts “The door is not secure!” when it is opened from the inside. Any student wishing to exit the hall through this door must endure the noise from the moment they open the door. Maybe there is need for such a warning, but why was the warning programmed without a time delay so people using the door innocently can’t open the door for the five seconds it typically stays open for an exit without it shouting?
I am distressed that my previous letter seems to have gone unnoticed, as the former warning system is still in place as before, and a similar warning system has been installed on the opposite, and more commonly used, door facing Norris Chemistry. I implore Housing Services to please think with regards to not only practicality but how these installations affect quality of life in the dorms. Just because it’s in the name of “student safety” doesn’t mean it isn’t a hugely unnecessary pain in the ass.
