I’m glad that Max Weidman addressed the “liberal” objection to country music in his editorial “We’re All a Little Bit Country.” I just happen to be a Californian (not to mention, a non-white, politically moderate) country listener.

When I began listening to this genre of music about three years ago, I was deathly afraid of going to, say, a Toby Keith concert or blasting the late KZLA through my neighborhood, simply because of how people might judge me as a person. In my experience, however, those who detested my taste in music were those who didn’t listen to country in the first place. Everyone else was generally surprised at first, but were much more accepting of me.

So anyway, I would repeat the fact that country is much more diverse than most folks generally believe, but I think Max summed it up pretty well.
