Two things concerning two people named Max:

1) I am writing to agree with George Denny’s response to Max Read. Speaking as one who has contributed to Steez, I take slight offense at being compared to a ninth grader. Since Steez is basically an open forum available to all students, an easily offended member of the Oxy community could easily construe your remark as an attack on their intelligence. In my experience, most members of the student body do not take kindly to being compared to a ninth grader, even a precocious one. I completely support an open forum for creative writing, therefore I support Steez and its mission. While I am not extremely offended by Mr. Read’s statement, on a scale of zero to Sammy Suboh, I’m about a five.

2) In response to the question posed in Max Weidman’s article: I can’t speak for all of “Generation Me,” but I can say that a constant search for a sort of miracle pill is a part of post-modern American society, and not just restricted to college students. Modern life is becoming almost too much to bear for almost everyone, and our entire society, not just “Generation Me,” is seeking a way to cope, avoid or escape completely.
