The ASOC Senate meeting commenced on Tuesday, March 17 to approve funding, discuss upcoming events and reveal the ASOC Senate shirt design. Members of MECHA/A.L.A.S. were also present at the meeting to request funding for their annual event, Semana de la Raza.

The Senate’s most notable proposal concerned plans for an on-campus pub at Oxy. They want to transform the Green Family Dining Room into a student-run pub with a lounge, bar and pool table. The space would be for students to go and hang out, encouraging more activity on campus.

“I believe that if the administration is willing to require students to live on campus through junior year they must also be willing to expand on-campus services for the students. . . the pub is a must needed addition to the current limited campus dining options,” First Year Senator Andreas Bloomquist said. “I am excited to see that the administration is finally listening to our calls for more on-campus dining.”

The General Assembly also met on Thursday, March 19 to discuss changes to the off-campus housing policy and the economic crisis. Director of Financial Aid Maureen McRae was available for questions.
