As I walk around campus, I am often shocked and irritated at the lack of provisions made for people who are handicapped. Sure, there are a few ramps here and there, but for the most part, Oxy is a very stair-intensive campus. Methods that are designed to help people who are handicapped are few and far between, and often require them to make long detours on their way about campus, rather than being conveniently located near their desired destination. The only residence hall that is equipped with an elevator is Stearns, and, frankly, I don’t really think that the monumental trek up the steps to Stearns is very handicap-friendly. This is a problem that has gone unaddressed at Oxy for many years, and it’s time for the administration to do something about it.
