I wish to bring to attention an interesting fact that one of our most distinguished alumni, retired Rear Admiral Marsha Evans of the U.S. Navy (’68), is not listed under Occidental College’s “Notable Alumni” Wikipedia page. As one of few female officers who had ever reached such high rank in a male dominated institution, I thought Occidental’s liberal students would celebrate her career. Thus, it is somewhat strange that she is not mentioned on the list, even though she was the “Distinguished Alumni Visitor” for 2007 and was awarded the Alumni Seal Award for Professional Achievement in 1999. I believe the administration should rectify this omission. We would not want it to reflect negatively Occidental College’s (overwhelmingly) liberal values.
