Lil Wayne: Been There

First and foremost, Lil Wayne is currently the hottest rapper in the game, no doubt about it. Weezy is on a new track every single week, and every single artist in the game wants to work with him. He loves what he does so much that he never says no; and we the listeners get surprise Weezy verses on plenty of remixes and collaborations all the time because of it.

The latest issue of Vibe magazine has a feature detailing the 77 hottest Weezy songs of 2007. 77 songs in one year, and it is just now November! Weezy has a fresh new style and he has greatly evolved in his musical, lyrical, and technical skills since his entrance into the game over a decade ago. By the way, “Back That Azz Up” came out when Weezy was 17 years old. What were you doing when you were 17 years old—trying not to look stupid in your P.E. uniform?

Lil Wayne came up on the streets of New Orleans, and he got recognized by some big artists in the South when we were all drinking from sippy cups and he had eleven years under his belt. I repeat, dude got signed to Cash Money at ELEVEN YEARS OLD, and he has been rapping like crazy ever since. You say that he doesn’t have classic albums like Jay-Z, but Jay didn’t even release his FIRST album Reasonable Doubt till he was 26!

Granted Weezy’s first couple of albums weren’t amazing, but the Carter I and II were bangers, and for the last couple of years his mixtapes have been phenomenal. Da Drought 3 and Dedication 2 are better than most rappers’ commercial albums, and that’s without major producers.

Furthermore, Young Carter shouldn’t have to be liked by every single person to be the best rapper alive, he just has to be sicker then anyone else out there—and he is. If you are judging rapping ability on popularity, then Soulja Boy Tellem must be the best rapper of this century; he has 12-year-old white girls dedicating videos to him and every one else in the country doing his dance at least once a night in every club in the United States.

Finally, you can put to rest any worries that Wayne won’t have beats on Carter III, as Scott Storch, Kanye, The Runners, Timbaland, will.i.am, Wyclef, and Mannie Fresh have been confirmed as producers already (appearing on EVERYONE’s songs will help with that). If that isn’t enough proof that Weezy F. Baby is the best rapper alive, we would like to present our top 5 lyrical reasons why he’s better than your favorite rapper:

5. “I have hoes, I don’t have to force them. They just do what I Sajak (say jack), like wheel of fortune.” —“Party Like a Rock Star (Remix)”

4. “Weezy from the dirty south, ya the dirtiest b*tch, but I’m cleaner than a virgin in detergent and shit.” —“Lyrical Homicide” w/ The Game

3. “I know what I’m doin’, outside the window of the jet UCLA (you see L.A.) like a Bruin.” —“Can’t Tell Me Nothin’ (Remix)”

2. “It’s a new game and I’m the coach like Avery, leave it to the flow we gettin’ dough like a bakery. I don’t really want to but these brothas makin’ me, put a muthaf***a on ice like the Maple Leaves. And that’s a hockey team, but I ain’t on no hockey team. I’m a champion, where’s the f***in Rocky theme? Damn. Rest in peace Apollo Creed. I’m a monster, every day is Halloween.” —“Upgrade” (from Drought 3)

And finally, Lil Wayne’s real mainstream triumph this year:

1. “I am the beast, feed me rappers or feed me beats. I’m untamed, I need a leash. I’m insane, I need a shrink. I love brain, I need a leech. Why complain on easy street? I don’t even talk I let the Visa speak, and I like my Sprite Easter pink.” —“We Takin’ Over”
