I’m writing to disagree with Brett Fujioka’s Political Podium column from two weeks prior suggesting that a vote for Hillary Clinton would be a vote for the GOP. Frankly, I think the matter of prime importance is that we elect a Democratic President. Granted, I do not agree with Clinton on every issue and I think she has run a very poor campaign, but I think in many ways she has been unfairly treated simply because of her gender. On the other hand, there are many things I admire about Barack Obama, but I do not think he is the strongest candidate in every way. However, when push comes to shove in November, Democrats should be willing to put their personal feelings aside and vote for our nominee. John McCain will no doubt cling to the Bush/Cheney doctrine in continuing the tragedy in Iraq with no end in sight and offers nothing but the same in terms of Bush’s failed economic policies. Finally, fellow Democrats, consider the Supreme Court-can we really afford any more right-wing appointments?
