I believe that Occidental has a really attractive campus. It is very green, unlike the surrounding city, and colorful due to all the flowers. However, there are two major eyesores on campus: the main quad and the foresty area over by the Cooler. First, the main quad, to some, could be considered attractive, but I don’t think dead leaves are attractive. The trees are pretty, but why are there so many dead leaves piled up underneath them? There should be grass so that students can sit under them and read. This would not only be more practical and comfortable to do work outside on a nice day, but also a whole lot more attractive.

Secondly, the area just beyond the Cooler and just before the music building needs to change. Once again, there is no grass and it’s nothing but dead leaves, rocks and dirt. I’ve almost never seen anyone in that area. I don’t understand the area. Is it supposed to be some sort of artsy area because of the weird pathway of rocks and dead tree stumps? It doesn’t serve a purpose and I don’t like it. There should be grass so that people could enjoy the space more.

Although Oxy does a good job making the campus attractive, these two areas would absolutely enhance the overall prettiness of the school. Not only would grass in these two areas make them much more functional for people to use, but the added green would make the school as handsome as Mark Harmon.
