Muse: there is no other band quite like them. The combination of lead singer Matthew Bellamy’s lyrics on theology, the Apocalypse and the universe, with their dramatic sound-a cross between rock, metal and new age-makes them unique in the modern pop/rock world. On Tuesday night, the boys of Muse drew fans from all over the nation and rocked the sold-out Forum stadium in Inglewood, California.
Muse opened the show with their most recent single “Knights of Cydonia,” which also included a trumpet player. During “Super Massive Black Hole,” the crowd danced and sang along to Bellamy’s falsetto delivery. The eclectic set list included songs from all of their albums, including songs from their first two albums, Showbiz and Origin of Symmetry. The light show and stage design was phenomenal; during “Starlight,” the highlight of the show, the band was backed by a dazzling display of stars and constellations.
Seeing Muse live is about as close as one can get to feeling like they’re traveling in some deep space vortex without taking any illegal substances. Bellamy’s energetic stage presence and Chris Wolstenholme’s harmonic, echoing bass riffs together make for a thrilling live experience. They are currently heading to across the Pacific to continue their tour, hitting cities such as Tokyo, Taipei and Hong Kong. More U.S. tour dates have not been released, but if the English trio ever returns to the States, be sure to catch them-it’ll blow your mind.
