There is a lot going on in the world and at Oxy right now, but I would like to take a little time to mention the passing of Sir Arthur C. Clarke, at 90 years old. Clarke, for those who don’t know, was one of the most influential and important writers in the science fiction genre. He wrote over 100 fiction and non-fiction books, including 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was later turned into a film directed by Stanley Kubrick. Clarke left a legacy of practical realistic technology descriptions, HAL and generations of fans. Also worth noting, a couple weeks ago, Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons passed away at 69. To everyone who has enjoyed any video game, science fiction or fantasy book, movie or TV show, pour one out for the two of the greats.
