In response to Leah Glowacki’s question regarding whether there is substance in ASOC, the short answer is YES. And I invite all other students who also have the same doubts to come down to the ASOC office located on the 1st floor of JSC and take a look at the lists of our accomplishments over the past few years. In fact, many of the things that we take for granted today, such as the TV’s in the Cooler, 24 daily library hours, and later Cooler hours were not there my first year. Student representatives had poured many hours of their lives to make it happen and many more to the projects that had failed.
Though the election may seem like a popularity contest, I do not doubt the ambition and drive that each candidate possesses. It is not the phony handshakes and colorful posters that should be ridiculed. The true danger lies with apathy. If the students want to be informed, I encourage them not to wait for speeches but ASK, even if you are here for a few more months. Ask us anything. Ask President Patrick McCredie’s foot massaging machine in the office. JUST ASK.
