While we appreciate the publicity for the sport of Ultimate in “Ultimate Frisbee 101” by Max Weidman, we have an issue we feel it necessary to address: the article explicitly failed to mention the existence of the women’s team, Women’s Air Corp.
Nearly 15 women have been running, diving, laying out, throwing forehands and backhands, running drills and scrimmaging four times a week since the start of the year. One of those practices happens to be co-ed, as are the games we play every Sunday at Santa Monica Beach.
We are extremely disappointed that the author of the article completely disregarded our hard work, time, and effort. Our team deserves the same amount of recognition as the men’s team, particularly considering that we do compete together. This oversight invalidates and discredits a team which is genuinely committed to working hard, practicing consistently, and developing as Ultimate players. In the future we’d like to receive equal representation and acknowledgment in the Oxy community.
