The Tigers are currently caught up in a turbulent season and are hoping to bounce back from a string of trying games. The team, currently at 10-16 and 2-7 in SCIAC, is rebounding from Saturday’s game against Cal Lutheran, where the Tigers lost 16-2.

“The overall progress of the team is mixed,” player Adam Franks (senior) said. The team achieved victories over nationally ranked teams Redlands and Ithaca, as well as wins against Puget Sound and Rutgers-Camden.

“We have won big games that we were not supposed to win and we have lost games where we should have won easily,” he said.

This is proving to be a tumultuous season for the squad, but the Tigers are hoping that their talented team will regain the momentum they opened the season with. “We have the experience to finish strong,” Franks said. “With the games and practices we have had this season I think this team is mentally prepared to win . . . We have the tools, we just need to use them.”

Outfielder Glenn Gray (sophomore) commends his fellow teammates for the hard work they have been putting in on the field. “Pitching wise, Matt Jones (junior) and Brooks Belter (first-year) have done really well,” he said. “In terms of hitting, Seth Goss (senior), Matt Anderson (senior) and Adam Franks have been keys in the lineup.”

Despite the team’s non-conference loss to Cal State University San Marcos on April 5, the team is hopeful that the season will pick up. “We really need to focus on coming together as a team,” Spencer Woolwine (junior) said. “When we are all there and support each other, we play the best games of our lives . . . We are more prepared and have more talent than before, so focusing on teamwork is our biggest goal right now.”

With a slew of first-years that are new to the team, the Tigers are hoping to finish the season on solid ground. “We have a huge [first-year] class-20 [first-years] compared to four active seniors-so the team dynamic is very new,” Franks said. “It has been a big year for re-teaching the fundamentals and essentially training what will be a very good team for the next three years.”
